I found out about this concert about six weeks ago by accident, while surfing on the internet. Within a few minutes of that time, I had read reviews of this musical performance that brought the world of 1968 into the present. The first of these Yoko Ono Plastic Ono Band concerts was in the late fall of 2009 in London.  The next city to experience this extraordinary collection of superb musical artists was at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in February of this year. In that version Eric Clapton and Paul Simon made special guest appearances with Yoko’s band. I took these photos with my iphone 4.

The Yoko Ono concert in LA on Saturday nite, October 2, 2010 was one of the most amazing experiences of my life.

The most special aspect of this concert was the stream of superior talent that continued to board the stage and play their instruments with utter brilliance and abandon.

There were stellar monumental performances of experimental rock, Noise music, echo-reverb, all balanced against the background of history. I thought of how fortunate LA was to be on the global pop culture and serious contemporary art scenes at once. This was a New York City art music production that has happened regularly in New York for decades. There were passages whereby the guitars, keyboards, voices, were simply mesmerizing. This concert may have come into existence as a vehicle to showcase Yoko Ono’s musical seriousness, but it soared when she just sat back and let her enormously gifted band of Asian musicians blow up the room with their tremendous back beat and overtones of sound. That Lady Gaga took the stage for the closing rounds sent the room into a frenzy.

THANK YOU YOKO!!!

  1. Gross but interesting pictures and that was 20 yrs ago n thats how I came to know John Lennon and Yoko Ono…. Leave it to Yoko Ono to reinvent John Lennon’s real birthdate. Google and Wiki saying it’s today. She says tomorrow. whogivesashit.
